Personal introduction
Hi, my name's Mingo and I'll be your English teacher,
Please read the handout/information i've just given you and i'll give you a little/brief explanation in English, then in Catalan/Spanish.
As you can see the RA/objectives this course on Technical English are READING, LISTENING, SPEAKING and WRITING.
I'd like to emphasize that these are not the school objectives, or my objectives, these are regulations from the Generalitat; and we can accomplish them more or less but we have to go in that direction.
now, how are we going to turn you into active speakers ?
we'll try to do that with dialogues, that is, the most important thing of each two-page unit that can be applied to our goals, is the dialogue.
we'll read it and translate difficult expressions or the whole thing if you need it,
then we'll copy it,
and finally we'll practice it, listening and speaking, in pairs until you learn it.
you have two sessions, or three hours to do that, or more time if you need it,
once you've learnt it, call me and i'll do an oral test of your skills,
50 % of your final mark is going to be the average of your oral exams,
the other 50 % will be the portafolio.
- After explaining this in different languages, try it with one real dialogue, the first one,
- Try also the dialogues from Assimil method.
- Handout on Assimil methodology.
Emphasize that testing oral skills implies 15 exams per dialogue. it's a lot of work. i'll try to do it.

we started copying and translating All my Loving, next session, we'll sing along.
Jordi said we could bring over more songs with the lyrics and translation to sing along in the classroom,
and, in fact, one student already chipped in with one song: The Lemon Tree.
Anna has given me some notes and materials to draw some signs in english.
most of those signs were finished by Friday.
I promised them we'd go to the schoolyard because it was very hot but, finally, we couldn't, so I owe them one class in the schoolyard.

We did our first oral exams, great!
Students compromised to practice the dialogue and i should be doing oral exams next week.
We still have to rehersal one lesson from the self-learning method.
second session fourth week September 2014

First week october
we start dialog 2,

i give away copies of Sinbad movie script, pages 5 through 12, we'll watch the movie next week.

Second week october
we'll start with the listening of dialog 2, they can start practising and taking oral exams, first session.
second session: some other oral exams, singing performances or movie watching depends on the class mood.
Third week october
We go on with Dialogue 2 and organize this song singing by pairs or groups.
In the Portafolio they should include the lyrics and the translation, both handwritten.

i gave the handout on Sinbad transcripts last week so we could as well wath the fragment.

We started UNIT 3 with Listening 5 pg. 9. they copy it on their notebook with the translation,
i teamed them up in groups of four to help each other with the translation but they used their mobile applications to translate it, it was accurate enough, besides, google also provides the pronunciation so if they had ear phones, they could even practice LISTENING once more and SPEAKING.

let's see if we can finish everybody's oral exams of unit 3 with this new possibility:
they can read silently each line, then raise up their eyes look at the schoolmate and say their bit, and proceed like this both characters of the dialogue each turn so they don't have to learn the dialogue by heart and concentrate more on pronunciation.

These are warmers - my students translated the lyrics from Spanish to English and this justifies some singing in Spanish to losen up, to warn up and get ready for the English songs. Last time worked perfectly with Color Esperanza by Diego Torres included in an exam.

1 TAPSD i gave back exams and portafolios, some of them failed, i explained nobody will pass the course unless portafolios are complete,
there were some questions about their marks, therefore, they started unit 9 as i answered individual questions.
2 TAPSD:
we had a debate and students preferred to go on as we were doing so far,
handouts on units 9 and 10, we started with unit 9, they completed dialogue and text,
next day we should listen to those pieces,
